The Holy Kotzker, not known to mince words, said:If you are the same person after davenning,as you were before davenning, why bother."

Talking to/with G-d- sometimes we, as humans, feel 'Is there anybody out there?'; However, just having had the conversation, has to have had an effect upon us.

You can never go home again? That may or may not be so. The home may have remained static, but we have not. At best we can visit thru the looking glass of our myriad experiences.

Perhaps, that is why we pray especially during Elul "Akhat sho'alti me'eit HaShem, o'ta avakeish, shivtee b'veit HaShem col y'mei cha'yai, la'kh'zot b'no'am HaShem u'l'vaker b'hei'chalo " my one request of G-d, that I seek, is to dwell in G-d's house all the days of my life, anticipating viewing G-d's pleasantness and visiting His innermost chambers.

Elul, the time of Change. But, is this really so? According to RAY"H Kook, we're actually looking forward to returning to our pristine prior state, by washing off the dirt of our mistakes. You CAN go home again.

Our one desire, as evinced by the verse above,is to always dwell in G-d's house.If you dwell in G-d's house, surely how could you drag in the mud? And if one anticipates viewing G-d's pleasantness, isn't it time we cleaned our eyeglasses or cleared our field of vision? But, some of us are sloppier than others, so we're asking G-d , please please please, help us to clean up our act.

'Col y'mei kha'yai' - all our days; borrowing from Ben-Zoma (Pesakh) - y'mei kha'yai-in this world; Col-in the world to come ===>Already, in this world we're in G-d's house! And we can view G-d's pleasantness ===> how G-d is running the world!!

WE JUST HAVE TO WAKE UP.

'Otah ava'keish' ==> Yosef looking for his brothers: "Et a'khai anochi m'vakeish"(I am searching for my brothers)==>
I am searching for G-d's house =>I know it's there, I just can't find it. "Gahl ei'nai , v'ah'beetah nifla'ot m'Torahtecha" G-d, please uncover my eyes,so I may see the secrets in Your Torah.

G-d's House is all around us. We are part of G-d's House.Our fellow human beings are all part of G-d's House.We just have to see it.(It's this year's model from our perspective)

ShVTi the 3 ivrit root letters -multiple meanings dwell,return to, find tranquility(shabbat) in G-d's House. We have to feel welcome there.

Rosh HaShanah - the New Year or The New(different)Head?
